Colleen and Derek's Country Wedding

After a few sneak peaks here and on Casa Sugar, I am thrilled to finally share a little photo essay post on Colleen’s wedding.  The wedding was held in August at a state park in southern Indiana.  Colleen, Derek, Colleen’s mom, and the local Thursdays crew spent months crafting away to make their special day breathtakingly beautiful, yet affordable, and just quirky enough to fit their unique style.  I was given the role of official photographer and as one of Colleen’s “special people” (aka would have been bridesmaids if Colleen and Derek were into that sort of thing).

The big day came and it was….

                                                      well it was completely perfect.

Pioneer Village

As I mentioned in the intro, Colleen and Derek managed to make such a traditional affair completely unique to their own nontraditional ideas of a wedding.  This place was called Pioneer Village and was a part of the state park.  Its one of those places where you can meet past presidents, learn to churn butter, and basically get your early 20th century on.

Caitlin made Colleen's earrings and necklace specifically with Colleen's personal taste and wedding dress in mind.

The Ceremony

Colleen and Derek walked down the aisle together, hand-in-hand to Mumford & Sons, Sigh No More.  I don't think that there was a dry eye in the whole place.

This is one of my favorites.  Check out Colleen's dad on the left. So sweet!

The Reception

Steering clear of the traditional wedding cake, Colleen and Derek opted to stick with the country theme and have individual pies for each guest.  Derek’s mom made each and every single one!

This is traditionally a Dutch wedding game that our very good friends, Emily and Paul, surprised Colleen and Derek with during the reception.  To play you have the newly weds stand back-to-back on chairs or a table.  Each is given a dry erase board (or chalkboard) and then they are asked a series of questions.  The questions must be written down individually of one another and then they have to hold up their answers for everyone to see! It was absolutely hysterical!

Look at Derek totally sweating it out!
