Welcome to DIY Wedding Week at Thurdays! This week we will be bringing you loads of ideas and projects to make your wedding fit into your budget (or at least a bit closer) and to make it feel just like you. Colleen is in the middle of planning her wedding, so we have some inspiring and creative ideas to share with all of you.
To kick off this week, we are bringing you a couple of fantastic ideas from the most magical wedding that I have every attended/had the pleasure of photographing: Raquel and Greg’s Portugal wedding. Raquel and her sister, Patricia, own my absolute favorite catering company called Noz (named after their hometown in Portugal). They are some seriously crafty ladies and don’t miss a beat when it comes to perfecting any event (check out our blog featuring Raquel’s baby shower). Raquel’s wedding was this perfect combination of high fashion and DIY personal touches. She wore an Oscar de la Renta dress and paired it with these fabulous star printed heels (to represent her American side). There were fireworks, swords, and music playing until dawn.
My favorite part about Raquel and Greg’s wedding, however, was the handmade décor that was carefully planned and placed throughout the location.
Gather different patterns of vintage fabric and sew them onto twine or ribbon.
Crowned Wedding Cake:
I loved Raquel’s choice to ditch the traditional wedding toppers and used a crown to complete her elegant wedding cake instead. How gorgeous is this?!
Punched Napkin Holders:
Buy a special hole punch and make your own napkin holders with card stock and a simple striped string.
